Happy 4th of July!

by Kathy Kaplan on July 4th, 2009

I was poking around this morning and found a wonderful Reston website with maps of all our pathways.   I have to admit I am a great lover of maps.  Long ago I wrote an article for the Connection about Reston’s lesser-known paths and I drew some maps for the article.   That was great fun.   I read in the paper recently that a new path was just added so it was exciting to find a map.   It looks like we will have nice weather this weekend.  How about a walk in a part of town you have yet to visit?   http://www.restonpaths.com/

Summer companions–

oxalis from Camarillo,

wood poppies waving fluted arms at the sun,

wren pipping in the crab apple,

and the many,

many-winged dragonflies–

blues, grays, blacks,

and bringing it all to a point,

the first two cicadas speaking counterpoint

and below, the single sphex

inspecting the closed rose-of-sharon buds.
