Call for Volunteers:  Pedestrian and Bicycling Advisory Committee
If you are interested in walking or biking in Reston, you may wish to volunteer for the Pedestrian & Bicycling Advisory Committee. <https://www.reston.org/InsideRA/Governance/Committees/AdvisoryCommittees/PedestrianBicycling/Default.aspx?qenc=HzT9ACzZbNs%3d&fqenc=w1qrNZPpf7GpEJU0L6GaMg%3d%3d>  It advises the Board of Directors on the sound development, management, and safe use of Reston’s pedestrian and bicycle systems as they relate to infrastructure improvements, accessibility, and promoting the benefits of these systems.

If you are interested in applying to be a member of the committee,  please forward a brief statement of interest and any pertinent qualifications by fax 703 – 435-9481, e-mail cate@reston.org or mail to Reston Association, 1930 Isaac Newton Square, Reston VA 20190 ATTN: Cate Fulkerson.

Coming in January
New magazine combines A to Z Guide and Reston Resource.
Reston will contain the full program guide for camps, aquatics, tennis, home maintenance, events and member service news you’ve come to expect in the A to Z Guide.

PLUS
All the news and information from the Reston Resource — profiles of people, interviews with the newsmakers, in depth reporting on issues that affect the Reston community along with volunteer opportunities.

Quarterly Magazine Saves Money
Each quarter, Reston will be mailed to all members who receive the A to Z Guide and the Reston Resource. Because those publications were mailed to members a total of seven times a year and Reston will be delivered a total of four times, there will be a savings on postage and the cost of producing each issue will be no more than the two publications were.

Reston will be the publication that defines the Reston community for visitors, newcomers and residents.  It will be the complete resource for living, working, playing and getting involved.

“The Heart & Soul of Reston” as told by Robert E. Simon, Jr.
Exclusive 30-minute documentary of Reston’s founder telling Reston’s history, highlighting the beauty of Lake Anne. Released on April 18, 2009, Reston Founder’s Day. Only $10 each, available at: Lake Anne Florist, Lakeside Pharmacy, Jasmine Café, Reston Art Gallery & Studios, Reston’s Used Book Shop, small change, Reston Museum.
(Editors Note: Proceeds cover production costs and in future will benefit the community with more free entertainment on the plaza. DVD production is by Fairfax Public Access and funded by Lake Anne merchants.)

Weed Warriors Projects
Our native trees, ferns and wildflowers are under attack by invasive exotic plants like English Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle and Bamboo. That is why we need warriors like you to join us in rescuing Reston’s beautiful parkland from these aggressive plants. These fast growing, invasive plants escape from people’s yards and seriously threaten local ecosystems, taking away vital food and habitat from already stressed wildlife populations.

For this event, contact: Ha Brock, RA volunteer specialist, via e-mail habrock@reston.org or call 703-435-7986.

Rally the troops for one last hoorah before the end of the year.  We will be returning to the Glade Stream Valley targeting English Ivy and Pachysandra that is trying to take its place along the pathway from Soapstone Dr. toward Steeplechase Drive.  We will be working along the newly restored stream to protect it from invasions of non-native plants. Meet at the Soapstone fire ring down the hill from Glade Drive.  Please park on the street. There is poison ivy at this site.
