Fly the Flag: Sept. 11, 2009

Please fly your U.S. Flag in memory of the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001. If you have a flag that is tattered, torn, faded or worn, please drop it by one of the collection sites at Reston Association, 1930 Isaac Newton Square or Central Services Facility 12250 Sunset Hills Road during normal business hours.

Residents living in The Glade Watershed are encouraged to attend to learn about the stream restoration plans for the stream between Soapstone Drive and Twin Branches Road.

Sounds are everywhere in nature. Test your listening skills as we take a listening walk. Create a thunderstorm with your hands and play a listening game. Sing songs like a bird and take home your own musical instrument.

Nature’s treasures are hidden everywhere! Go on a scavenger hunt to find them all. Look high in the trees and low on the ground as you follow a trail of clues. Who knows where the clues will lead you? Collect a prize at the end.

Bring your jumping shoes as we explore the lives of jumping creatures like frogs, toads and flying squirrels. Can you jump as high as a frog or as long as a grasshopper? Make a jumping craft and take a walk to look for jumping creatures.

Multicultural Festival
The Reston Multicultural Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 from
11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Lake Anne Plaza. It’s a day of celebration of international cultures to celebrate diversity. This free annual event brings together the rich medley of cultures through music, entertainment, dress, food, and cultural treasures from all over the world that is Reston.  Volunteers are needed to assist with children’s activities, concession, volunteer check-in, information booth and much more.  For more information contact Ha Brock at 703-435-7986 or via e-mail at habrock@reston.org.

Looking for a service project or need community service hours for school?
Want to make an instant impact in improving the health of our local streams?

Then participating in the Fall Stream Clean up is for you.  The site locations include:
Snakeden Branch – Upper   meet at Hunters Woods Village Center
Snakeden Branch – Middle – meet at Soapstone Road
Nature Center – meet at pavilion
Colvin Run- meet at Tall Oaks Pool
Stevenage Road – meet at Reston North Park

Tons of trash end up in the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay every year from our watersheds.  Litter is harmful and an eyesore in our neighborhoods and open spaces.  Let’s do our part.  It is amazing what a group of people can accomplish in a few hours.
