BOARD SUPPORTS TOLL INCREASES, MOVES FORWARD WITH REC PLAN, ADVANCES HEADQUARTERS
At an August meeting, the Board of Directors gave the green light to three initiatives:
- Parks and Recreation: A plan to give the Parks and Planning Advisory Committee direction to review all the studies and reports on recreation and set up a timeline on indoor tennis, indoor aquatics and recreation enhancements to Brown’s Chapel Park.. This will be presented to the board in February 2010.
- Dulles Toll Road: Approved a resolution in support of increased tolls.
- RA headquarters: Following an executive session, the Board approved a measure to give CEO Milton W. Matthews the go-ahead to send letters of intent to prospective landlords.

Volunteer Opportunities
Multicultural Festival
The Reston Multicultural Festival will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Lake Anne Plaza. It’s a day of celebration of international cultures to celebrate diversity. This free annual event brings together the rich medley of cultures through music, entertainment, dress, food, and cultural treasures from all over the world that is Reston. Volunteers are needed to assist with children’s activities, concession, volunteer check-in, information booth and much more. 26th Annual Reston Triathlon
Sunday Sept. 13, 2009
7 a.m.
Free. Food and drink after the event at South Lakes High School.
Various locations – depends upon where you volunteer.
Come help with this long-standing community event that relies on broad community support. Volunteers needed for transition areas such as Lake Audubon Pool and South Lakes High School, as well as bike and run course marshals. All volunteers get a cool shirt.

Communications Advisory Committee
The Reston Association is seeking volunteers for the newly formed COMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, which will be responsible for enhancing the association’s communications and public relations program.
There are up to 15 seats open to Reston Association Members who possess significant experience in professional communications, public relations or public affairs.
If you are interested in applying to be a member of the Communications Advisory Committee, please forward a brief statement of interest and any pertinent qualifications to Cate Fulkerson via e-mail at cate@reston.org.

You post these updates weekly? Thank you very much! As a newer resident I found this to be very helpful. I am really looking forward to that Multicultural Festival at Lake Anne! As an avid runner and swimmer (who also may want to take up biking in the Spring) it’s good to know there’s an annual triathlon here as well.
